Anderson Cooper Shocked by Words from Anti-LGBTQ+ Church President
Bart Barber, President of the Southern Baptist Convention Church, who made scandalous statements about LGBTQ+ individuals while interviewing journalist Anderson Cooper, is on the agenda.
Bart Barber, President of the Southern Baptist Convention Church, interviewed journalist Anderson Cooper for 'CBS 60 Minutes' on Sunday, October 9.
Barber explained why the church is against same-sex marriage; ''I believe that sinners should be decriminalized. And this applies to all of us. We are committed to the idea of gender as a gift from God. We are committed to the idea that men and women should be united in marriage.''
When journalist Cooper asked Barber "if he could be a good Christian and LGBTQ+ at the same time," Barber simply replied "No".
Journalist Cooper could not hide his shock after his 'No' answer.
Bart Barber was elected president of the controversial LGBTQ+ affiliated church on June 14. Barber won 61 percent of the vote, beating his rival, Tom Ascol.
Believing that the LGBTQ+ community is inherently sinful, their belief in divisive socio-political issues is often brought up by their ultra-conservative views.
