Cundinamarca Governor Nicolas Garcia said in a statement after the incident, "Every minute is vital because the oxygen inside is depleted. 2 people were rescued from the mine alive, but 11 people lost their lives."
According to the first determinations, the explosion in the mine is considered to be a firedamp explosion, while efforts to rescue 10 workers trapped in the mine continue.
