Forest fires cannot be stopped in Chile, a South American country. According to local media reports, 13 people have died so far.
Forest fires caused by the heat wave that affected Chile, the South American country, continue. While the fight against flames continues in different parts of the country, especially in the Nuble and Biobio regions, the loss of life is increasing.
According to the statement made by local authorities, a total of 11 people, including a firefighter, lost their lives in the town of Santa Juana in Biobio, 500 kilometers south of the capital, Santiago.
Chilean Agriculture Minister Esteban Valenzuela reported that a fire helicopter crashed south of La Araucania, killing the Bolivian pilot and Chilean technician.
Interior Minister Carolina Toha also stated that 39 fires broke out across the country and hundreds of homes were damaged.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric took a break from his vacation and moved to the Nuble and Biobio regions, which have a population of about 2 million. "My job as president today is to ensure that all resources are ready for the emergency so people feel they are not alone," Boric said.
Boric also said there are "signs" that some of the fires may have been set deliberately.
So far, 14 thousand hectares of land have turned to ash in the fires.
