Terrible neglect in Belgium! They were forgotten on the plane, they died of cold
Three of the nine remaining bears on the plane, which could not take off at Belgium's Leige International Airport due to snow and ice, froze to death.
The cold weather, which was effective in Belgium, brought along disruptions in transportation. Many flights at Liege International Airport were suspended due to heavy snowfall.
A plane from Peru to Qatar with 9 sloth bears on board was also stranded at the airport due to adverse weather conditions. Three of the bears that were not evacuated from the plane perished from the cold.
"We will look at what the responsibilities are and what sanctions should be applied in light of that," said Wallonia Environment Minister Celine Tellier.
