The crisis in the transportation sector continues in Germany! Another 24-hour strike...
Transport sector workers in Germany started a 24-hour strike at the call of their unions.
In Germany, upon the call of the workers' union Verdi and the railway workers' union EVG, the transport sector workers started a strike from midnight. Airports, ports, railways, buses and metro workers will go on strike 24 hours a day. While the German Airports Association announced that approximately 380 thousand passengers were affected by the strike, public transportation in the country came to a standstill.
Deutsche Bahn, the national railway operator of Germany, said the strike decision was unnecessary and serves no purpose, while some unions stated that the unions that called for the strike made excessive demands.
The Verdi labor union is demanding a raise for transportation sector workers on the grounds that their salaries are insufficient in the face of rising living costs. The union wants a 10.5 percent, or at least 500 euro, raise for employees, while EVG advocates a 12 percent increase.
Verdi, who called for strikes and is among the largest unions in Germany, represents 2.5 million and EVG 230 thousand workers.
