The EU will reduce energy consumption by 2030
The European Union (EU) countries have agreed to reduce their final energy consumption by 2030.
The Council of the European Union (EU) and the European Parliament (EP) reached an interim agreement in the negotiations on the reduction of final energy consumption. According to the agreement, EU countries will reduce their final energy consumption by 11.7% until 2030.
The Council of Europe and the EP also decided to gradually increase the annual energy savings target for final Energy Consumption from 2024 to 2030.
In this process, member countries will save an average of 1.49 percent annually in final energy consumption. The annual savings rate in question will reach 1.9 percent on 31 December 2030.
Within the scope of the new decision, all public institutions, except for public transport and the armed forces, will fulfill their obligations regarding energy consumption. Accordingly, buildings belonging to public institutions will have to renew at least 3 percent of their total area every year.
