The USA plans to reflect the Sun's rays coming to Earth back into space with a new project it has initiated against the global climate crisis. Although the extraordinary project has long been on the national agenda, some researchers view the concept of reflecting sunlight as morally 'dangerous'.

Discussed for years

The idea was first proposed to the then US president in 1965. In the years that followed, the concept was worked on and several viable techniques were identified.

The project, which was designed with a detailed study for 5 years, will be coordinated by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

How Will the 'Solar' Project Work?

The project, called solar geoengineering, aims to alter the amount of Sunlight reaching Earth to reduce the warming caused by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
