Bart Barber, President of the Southern Baptist Convention Church, interviewed journalist Anderson Cooper for 'CBS 60 Minutes' on Sunday, October 9.
Barber explained why the church is against same-sex marriage; ''I believe that sinners should be decriminalized. And this applies to all of us. We are committed to the idea of gender as a gift from God. We are committed to the idea that men and women should be united in marriage.''
When journalist Cooper asked Barber "if he could be a good Christian and LGBTQ+ at the same time," Barber simply replied "No".
Journalist Cooper could not hide his shock after his 'No' answer.
Bart Barber was elected president of the controversial LGBTQ+ affiliated church on June 14. Barber won 61 percent of the vote, beating his rival, Tom Ascol.
Believing that the LGBTQ+ community is inherently sinful, their belief in divisive socio-political issues is often brought up by their ultra-conservative views.
