Death toll Rises in Anti-Government Protests in Peru

In Peru, the number of people who lost their lives in demonstrations where government opponents came face to face with the police rose to 7. Dozens of civilians were injured.

The political crisis in Peru, which started after ex-President Pedro Castillo dissolved the Congress, continues.

The death toll is mounting in clashes with police after supporters of former President Castillo, who was sacked last week and now in custody, took to the streets to protest.

The head of the Peruvian Ombudsman Office, Eliana Revollar, announced that the number of deaths increased to 7 and the number of injured to 32 in clashes between police and demonstrators.

Revollar said that a political solution should be found to the political crisis in the country and said, "These unnecessary deaths need to be investigated. Because if we had taken the decisions on time, we would not have experienced this situation."
