Spain is battling wildfires caused by drought and heat caused by climate change. According to the statement made by the Spanish Military Emergency Unit, forest fires broke out simultaneously at more than 60 different points in the Asturias autonomous region in the north of the country. It was stated that most of the fires, in which at least 500 people intervened, were small-scale. However, it was learned that settlements were evacuated due to the high risk of fire in some points such as Lavadoria, Toranu and La Matosa regions.
In the statement made by local sources, it was stated that the temperature reached 29 degrees in Asturias, the flames spread rapidly due to the strong wind, and the fire extinguishing efforts were adversely affected.
