Sanchez, who made his last social media post on October 1, could not be heard from for days. His family claimed that their son disappeared on October 17 and Sanchez was detained in Iran.
According to the news in the Spanish press; The Spanish government told the family of Santiago Sanchez that he was detained in Iran, but was not informed about the reason for his detention.
“We learned this morning from the Spanish foreign ministry that there is a 99 percent chance of being arrested,” Sanchez's mother said.
Sanchez Arrested in Tehran?
The Spanish man's family said they believed Sanchez and his translator were in a prison in Tehran. However, they have not been contacted yet.
The Spanish embassy in Tehran is in contact with Iranian officials about Sanchez, the foreign ministry said in a statement. Authorities declined to provide further details.
Sanchez made his last post on October 1 and reunited with his family. Sanchez is believed to have crossed the Iran-Iraq border and landed in Iran on October 2.
