In the operation carried out in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, 47 macaque monkeys were seized in the trunk of the suspect vehicle, which was followed by the police.
During a search of the vehicle by the police, it was revealed that the monkeys were placed in mesh bags and placed in plastic boxes.
It was learned that the rescued monkeys were planned to be sent to China for use in domestic drug production, while two people in the vehicle were reportedly detained.
Peersasak Paksasuay, Head of Thailand's Natural Resources Conservation Administration, said in a statement about the incident that the captured macaque monkeys are a protected species under Thai law.
