The Northern Lights were viewed from the observatory in Northumberland, on England's Scottish border.
Astronomer Don Monk said it was the best image he had seen in a long time.
Under the Northern Lights video he shared on his Instagram account, Astronomer Monk said, ''What a beautiful thing last night! "A lovely view of the northern lights," he wrote.
Also known as the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis is the result of the interaction of the earth's magnetic field with charged particles from the Sun.
The Northern Lights, which are more common on cold, long and dark nights during the winter months, are generally seen more clearly than Sweden, Norway and Iceland.
