Air Jordan XIII shoes worn by American basketball star Michael Jordan in the 1998 NBA finals went on sale at Sotheby's.
The shoe sold for $2.2 million, making it the most expensive sneaker in history. The sneakers, which were sold at record prices, were also among the most expensive at auctions. "This record proves that the demand for Michael Jordan's sports memorabilia continues to exceed all expectations," said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby's manager.
The Nike Air Ships shoes Jordan wore in his first season with the Chicago Bulls in 1984 sold for a record $1.47 million at auction in Las Vegas in 2021.
Jordan, who ended his career in 2003, also became the first billionaire player in NBA history.
