After the end of the "Zero Covid" strategy implemented in China since the beginning of 2020, there was an explosion in cases.
As China prepares to reopen its borders on January 8, 2023, quarantine will end for travelers arriving in China and passport applications will continue for Chinese citizens.
While many countries, including the USA, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan and India, imposed testing and various restrictions on travelers from China after the increase in the number of cases, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) described these decisions as "unfair".
Expressing that the increase in the number of cases is not expected to affect the European Union (EU), ECDC said, "We continue to be cautious. We will be ready to take emergency measures if necessary."
Finally, Italy has decided to apply a mandatory Covid test to passengers from China. Out of 120 Chinese passengers on a plane, 68 tested positive for Covid.
